And now for something new: an audiobook of one of my books, Prof. Groovy and Other Stories. I recorded this collection of short stories in my son, Nate Livingston’s Mudroom Sound Studio. And for those who like to have a book read to them, it is now available on Audible. Here’s the link.
First, let me tell you about the book and how it came to be.
I wrote these four stories when I lived in Taos, NM. I was inspired by my experiences when I was a naïve college student learning about life and was attracted to the counter-culture scene. But keep in mind like a lot of my fiction, I took what I knew and had my way with it.
This collection is a warmup for the novel, Peace, Love and You Know What. Both were published in 2016.
Prof. Groovy and Other Stories feature some of the novel’s characters, including Lenora Dias, her friends, and a notorious professor at the fictional Westbridge State College. Those who read the novel will note some scenes and dates are different in these stories.
Actually, The Bridge, the literary magazine of my alma mater Bridgewater State University (it was a college when I went there) published Professor Groovy after it requested submissions from alum. One of the staff asked who was the professor that inspired the story but my lips were sealed. They still are.
Last year, I recorded these stories in Nate’s home studio, our first attempt. Then my very busy son patiently did the hard work of editing what I spoke. Besides being a person highly skilled at operating heavy equipment and working with stone, Nate is a talented musician.
Next we are going to tackle The Twin Jinn at Happy Jack’s Carnival of Mysteries, complete with music that Nate will create.
I am grateful to Nate for the work he did. Frankly, it’s always unsettling to hear one’s voice recorded. That’s true also of a podcast I recently did for GCC’s Backyard Oasis. More on that next. Here is the link on Spotify if you can’t wait.
Anyway, here’s the nitty gritty. The price for Prof. Groovy and Other Stories is $6.95. (Perhaps you can snag a new trial promo.) It runs one hour and 11 minutes. And thank you if you listen to what I wrote and read.
